Weird Austrian bugs
I'm always encountering unusual insects here in Vienna, the likes of which I never saw back home in England.
Some of them are easily identifiable, like this 3" long grasshopper I found flying around my bedroom:

Or these fire bugs:

This next one I eventually identified as a rove beetle:

The latest has me stumped though. It was around 1.5" long and had grasshopper like rear legs and a wasp like body:

Any ideas?

Horror and disgust...

It's a leaf-footed bug apparently.

Re: Weird Austrian bugs
but it has no leaves on its feet. Weird
I have had this encredibly large mosquito-looking insect flying around my flat. I never thought of taking pics of it, I just panic and flail on these occasions.
Will try to take pics of odd insects next time before I flail
I actually have a lot of insects in my apartment come to think of it. But all are easily identifyable. Like moths. And ants.

I love insects - wish I had a decent camera to take better photos of the ones I find.

I love bugs too, they're fascinating in a shuddering way
Having a garden I was also disturbed to find a whole nest of firebugs earlier in the spring and got straight on to google to find out what they were, their warning colours alarming my plants. They haven't reached England yet but are to be found as far as northern France. However my wasp spider, which is huge, is already in southern counties of England. Can't put up a photo until I find out how to do it
in the meantime, here's an image http://www.nwspictures.com/i/wasp_spiderWM3.jpg

We're on the second floor and a couple of summers ago we had tons of these green grasshoppers hanging out inside. Then we found half under the fridge, half in the loo, etc.

What cat doesn't love grasshoppers. Our old cat loved the annual arrival of the new "Toys".
