2 visas question

Austria has a reputation for paperwork and bureaucracy...

2 visas question

Postby macguy14 » Thu Jan 20, 2011 8:19 pm

i have a free lance visa/residency permit for austria....for one year.(its my 4th year).

I am considering going to berlin to get my MA in my field, that is not offered in Austria.

as i would be studying, it would be hard for me to work in the next year to reach the amount of money required me to then show i was successful with work the past year and therefore have credit to apply for a 5th year..... but on the off chance , im wondering what my possibilities are.....

can i have a student visa in germany while keeping my austrian work visa?
do the visa/schengen offices overlap and they'd find out and its not allowed?
or
do i not even need a german student visa my first year since i have the austrian residency visa?
(germany probably doesnt care as to them i would look austrian almost, being allowed to stay etc.)

but just wondering if theres pros and cons, a logical way to look at this and safeguard myself.

hard to give up the work visa for a student visa in another country. not just taking a break from work for 2 years, its kinda disassembling my life as an expat....

Hey,

There is a group called Helping Hands here in Vienna and it offers legal advice to immigrants and expats. You could send them an email explaining your problem and they will set up an appointment to discuss your options.
I don't know how helpful their advice will be, when I was having job problems they just kept telling me to find another job (there are only 4 schools which give visas to Canadians), or get married to my boyfriend. But, it is worth a try, right?
Good luck! :)
