Recommended Acupuncture Doctor in Vienna
Hi everyone!
I am looking for a place to go to receive acupuncture treatment. I would prefer a woman, but I am open to any good people you could refer me to (if they could speak English that would definitely be a plus).
Many thanks,
Dee

I am not sure acupuncture requires a medical degree to practise; isn't it normally just Mr Miyagi working for cash (without any documents or insurance)?
If you're suffering from a bit of a bad back or slight nausea (the only two symptons acupuncture is clinically proven to help with) maybe going to see a real doctor would be a good idea; Austria is world renoun for the high quality of it's mediacal institutions.

Do you know what type of 'doc' oder profession can help with postural problems/neck shoulder etc and associated nausea, Tatt? And are they covered by my social insurance?

Hey,
Your medical / social insurance covers everything by any national doctor, in Austria and while you're on holiday worldwide. You just need your ecard!
I am not a medical expert so I would suggest to make an appointment with any non-private house doctor and he will usually make a referral if he cannot solve your issues by him or herself. But maybe a physiotherapist is a good choice for the symptoms you mentioned. Non-private physio's are of course covered by your ecard - but I think it may be only with a referral.
There are private doctors, but you have to pay extra for these (standard medical insurance will only reimburse you for 80% of the standard price if you visit a private clinic).
Maybe I'm just a cynic, but a big fat placebo just doesn't fill me with confidence. Proven clinical evidence, on the other hand, does:

Dee,
as you didnt mention why you wanna see an acupuncturist, it doesnt really help when others offer other advice, since its not contextualized. I've been to osteopath and acupuncturist in wien that both helped more and faster than the free services provided with the ecard for the things i was looking to relieve . for me doing anything physically rehabilitative in the austrian physio-scene, where i got 10 free sessions or whatever, was a joke. the situation of nervously waiting, being thrown in a room by a different nurse every day, 3 nurses in one day, to be hooked up to machines, or quickly given a heat pack or forgotten about in a room, or made to feel like you must adhere to the 20 min time slot or the whole praxis gets behind schedule as everyone runs around. this whole atmosphere and being touched this way hinders any benefit from the things they are trying to do.
acupuncturists do have a medical license in wien and i think i got 20euro back from each session when i mailed all the receipts to the wgkk.
and medical treatments that have been around for 1000s of years just might have some benefit over medical science that has been used for like 100 years. having more info doesnt necessarily make anything better. once doctors started MRI-ing spine problems, they saw slipped discs everywhere where the patient didnt even complain about pain, so then millions of dollars were spent on the extensive MRI and surgeries that weren't relieving any pain, but then adding complications during surgery... it is now back to before, and a standard practice to not mri spines anymore and only treat what the patient complains about.
i asked a friend who knew the most amazing akupuncturist but he was too busy so i asked him for a recommend and he gave me this address...she speaks english. i went 3 or 4 times.

Does acupuncture work to relieve pain from bulging disk? I've tried PT and pain meds. Exercise helps a tiny bit. I'm wondering if anyone has had relief of this pain with acupuncture.
