Hi My name is Rene
...argh I have to type my whole post again since I was logged off without knowing...
I just started some work this week in Vienna. It could be for 12 months. Two weeks ago I was not thinking about this city at all.
I realy hope to meet some new people here. I already learned that the austrians are nice and easygoing, but it could be the perfect weather conditions offcourse
Since I see that this is realy a biking city I'm playing with the thought of getting a bike here.
I would love to meetup for a beer and a not too serious chat
Let me know if you like too.
My german is...getting better and better each day. At work english is NOT allowed since it was one of the requirements. Its not easy and I have to get used to the austrian accent.
But like this it is just good to be forced to speak and learn german more.
My spannish is worse pero cuando hablas despacio entiendo mejor...uch uch
I had some online lessons.
I like playing guitar sometimes. I can also play piano.
So that was something about myself.
Cheers
Rene

Re: hi, my name is....
Hello All,
My name is Kris and I've been in Vienna since early April. I came over for a job with the Uni (Department of Methods in the Social Sciences) and have been intending to post something here since I first joined the site. However many weeks later, I have apparently fulfilled said intention. Sadly, it's primarily due to physically still being at the office well after my brain has decided to call it a day. But I'll take the victories where they come... it's the small victories in life that'll keep you going.
I was born in England but moved to the US when I was 8 and lived there for 26 years before moving back. I've spent the last couple of years wandering around England. Then the opportunity to move to Vienna for a short (10 month) stint popped up and so here I is.
I spend most of my time working and the rest split between an online game and sleeping. I tried going out occasionally the first few weeks I was here but didn't do so well - I don't speak a word of German. I decided to look at that as an opportunity to get more writing done. That is now getting old. Time for the eat, drink, and be merry component of life to be resumed.
I live out on the outskirts (so I'm told), in the 22nd. I can masterfully navigate the U1 and U2, since I take those to work. If anyone fancies a drink after work (unless I'm on a roll I usually get bored and leave around 6pmish) or on the weekends near those areas, let me know. I'd be happy to meet up.

Re: hi, my name is....
Cheers to all,
my name is Chrissi and I moved to Vienna around March to start a new job. And, had to realize, having to work is not the ideal setting if you want to meet new people. So, I want to give it a try here...
I am a vet working in virology research and am looking for people that would like to just meet and chat about things probably not too serious, go for clubbing now and then, and for lots of outdoor activities as it is supposed to be summer!!! So if anyone here is up for hiking, climbing, beachvolleyball, chilling on the Donauinsel (and this list is not inteneded to cover everything
, just let me know... As I am quite an active person, the more the better
Looking forward to meeting you!!!

Hi, I just moved to Austria to be an Au Pair and I live about 30 minutes on the train outside of Vienna. Just wanting to introduce myself and possibly meet people in and around Vienna. I'm here mostly to improve my German (which after 8 months in Spain is practically non-existant!) and enjoy Austria!!
Thanks,
Kat (from Manchester, England)

Hey Kat,
Welcome to Vienna area (at 30 minutes by train you're probably in Lower Austrian state instead of Vienna proper)! I hope you're with a nice family.
We're arranging a meet and greet next week on Tuesday at Strandbar Herrman if you would like to meet a few friendly faces in the city.

Hi everyone,
New to the site, a touch less new to the city - been here almost 1.5 years. Originally from the States and now looking to make some friends here outside of work. Might work up the nerve to join the "meet and greet" this evening!
Ciao for now,
Andrea

Hi,
I moved to just outside of Vienna in June to be an au pair for 3 months. I'm living in orth an der Donau, which is about 20 minutes away from vienna. I've found it quite difficult to meet people due to the fact I'm living in a little village! So was just wondering if you would want to meet up sometime as it would be great to speak to someone I can understand! How have you found Vienna? Hope your happy with your family!

Hello, my names Ellie
I just moved here in June!
I'm working as an au pair and live about 20 minutes outside of Vienna in orth an der Donau. I absolutely love it here, but unfortunately with it being such a small town it's quite hard to meet people! My Germans ok, but it would be really nice to meet people who speak my own language!
Thanks
Ellie

Hello there Ellie,
If you would like meet a few expats all in one go then try to come along to our next BBQ:
viewtopic.php/f,6/t,16599/
If you can't make it this time we'll be having other later in the summer as well, and some other evening events
Is there a train you can take to Vienna Mitte? Or are you really stuck in the countryside.

Hello everyone!
My name is Eva and I'm from Poland. Moving to Vienna in 2 months (maybe for forever if I'll love it).
As a person who hates sitting at home being alone I am searching already for "social possibilities" in Vienna. That is how I found this website and I think I like it already. I hope to find some friends there. The reason why I am going to move there is a job offer. Everythings seems to be settled so see you in Septmeber!

Re: hi, my name is....
Hi everyone,
My name is Dan. I moved over from England three weeks ago following 6 years of university in Manchester. I've now come to Vienna to teach English and also take advantage of the free university education.
I have visited Vienna regularly over the past year so I know my way around quite well, but don't know many English speaking people just yet.
I noticed you had a bbq at the Donauinsel three days ago. A real shame as I live literally two minutes away (you can hear the music from my apartment).
I look forward to the next meet up (and to a game of football if anyone is interested - see my other post).
