Informing employer about pregnancy

Postby EH2010 » Sun Oct 09, 2011 1:57 pm

I have read that it is obligatory to inform your employer as soon as you find out that you are pregnant. Does anyone know if this really means "as soon as" or would 8 / 9 weeks suffice.

It seems hard to believe that a woman would inform her employer at 5 or 6 weeks, but does it happen?

Thanks in advance for any info or shared experiences.

The WKO has information on this issue at: http://portal.wko.at/wk/format_detail.wk?angid=1&stid=434879&dstid=686&titel=Meldepflichten,bei,Schwangerschaft

It states that you have to inform your employer in writing of your pregnancy as soon as you are aware of it including the expected due date. They may require that you have a doctor's letter confirming this to be the case as well as informing them of the expected due date.
I have a near-fatal aversion to neediness and tree-hugging. Anon.

To be honest for your own peace of mind I would wait until you are personally happy about telling people generally - 12 weeks is good.

It probably makes little difference to the company, but you know your own job so if they want you to take a 1 year project somewhere then decline sooner rather than later :-)

Yup.

And the AK is pretty good if you need to know your rights etc.

Best wishes,

Thank you for the info and the advice! i think it seems a bit crazy to tell before you are out of the woods.. So yeah I think i will wait a little longer before i say anything, unless something comes up that I have to.
