Best swimming pools to go with kids?

Postby Kumquat » Sun Jun 27, 2010 2:20 pm

What do you consider good open air swimming pools in Vienna or around to go with your kids? Ours are 4,5 and 2 but we are eager to hear from parents with kids in other age ranges. ;)
We like Gansehaufel, Schafbergbad and Krapfenwaldbad.
For Krapfenwaldbad it can be tough to find a parkingplace though.
Gansehaufel has easy access into the Alte Donau and some nice playgrounds.

For something more central, the Theresian Bad (U4 Meidlinger Hauptstrasse) has a pretty nice small kids pool (my son is almost 2) as well as a lot of room to run around and a play area with swings, climbing structure etc...

Prater Bad is huge, a toddlers pool, wave machine, 2 adult pools, diving boards and a huge garden, vollyball, retaurants etc.

The biggest outdoor pool complex in Vienna.

My other favourite is Döblinger Bad. Lovely gardens, nice for kids, sometimes a bouncey castle and other things near the toddlers pool.

Now that Oberlaa has reopened after a complete refurbishment, it's bigger than the Praterbad, and very well thought out. Two main swimming pools partly in and outdoors, a huge separate childrens pool and play area including a shallow one for toddlers, closed off from the main ones and lots of smaller pools in and out doors for various things like high board diving, wave machines, slides etc etc. saunas, tanning etc., lots of space. Definitely worth a visit, and the lovely Oberlaa park next door. Tram 67 from Reumannplatz to end stop "Terme Wien"
