Austria is well known for its generous allocation of public holidays, with a lot of public holidays throughout the year. With very few exceptions public holidays mean that the shops remain closed and offices are shut (a notable exception for the latter is in International Organizations observing another scheme of public holidays. Unlike in the United Kingdom, where public holidays falling on Saturdays and Sundays are moved to the following Monday, in Austria there is no "mobility" of public holidays. The following fixed days are public holidays in Austria. 1 January - Neujahr / New Year's Day In addition there are also a number of "moveable feasts" which move around depending on the date of Easter - being in May or June depending on how early/late Easter is.
